Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a worldwide problem. According to the data,  around 30% of the general population in the western world suffer from NAFLD.   In Asia,   NAFLD has been found in the range of 15% to 30% in the general population.  The prevalence is  more in the case of people suffering from metabolic syndromes, obesity and diabetes, Fatty Liver Non-Alcoholic What is NAFLD ? NAFLD is defined as the accumulation of excessive fat in the liver, without excessive drinking of alcohol. A healthy liver  contains  almost zero fat.  Although initially benign, the disease can progress slowly to create problems over a period of time.  Risk factors •	Overweight/obese •	High BP •	Have high levels of fats in the blood such as cholesterol and triglycerides •	Type 2 diabetes •	Food & Lifestyle factors which include high sugary foods, junk foods, trans fats and so on •	Certain medications, such as corticosteroids, for long •	Rapid weight loss •	Exposer to toxins   •	Age between 40 & 60 and  It is more common in women than in men.  Symptoms Generally, there are  no visible symptoms. However, there might be issues like:fatigue,  discomfort in the upper right side of abdomen  Diagnosis •	Imaging techniques •	Liver function tests Treatments and remedial approaches There are no medicines that have been approved to treat NAFLD.  However, there are a few helpful steps:  •	Obese people have to focus on weight reduction.  But, this reduction should be gradual only. •	Regular aerobic exercises are advised. Yoga can help. •	Regular consumption, of Vitamin E rich foods or periodic intake of vitamin E supplements (under the suggestion of Physician), is suggested. •	Avoid Junk foods, sweets, sugary drinks and high sugar concentrates, canned foods, junk foods, heavy meat etc. •	Consume moderate carbohydrates, Low chain fats, fresh fruits   and vegetable dishes. •	Low in salt diet. Stage 02  Stage 04 01 03 Stage Stage Simple Fatty liver It is a case of moderate build-up of fat and usually doesn’t cause any symptoms of concern Or symptoms might be mild. Steatohepatitis It is a case of   inflammation of Liver and serious form. It certainly requires medical follow-up  Fibrosis It is a case of  Formation of scar tissue in and around liver. Liver can normally function. Yet a medical follow up is required Cirrhosis It is a very severe condition. This condition usually precipitates due to inflammation for long General stages of NAFLD According to National Center for Biotechnology Information, ‘Cooking oils high in omega-6 fatty acid (soybean, sunflower, corn) should be changed to cooking oils high in omega-3 fatty acids (Canola, Olive, Chia, Perilla). This is an important step in easing the condition. About 100 million individuals in the United States are estimated to have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Their diets are usually  rich in saturated fat and omega-6 fatty acid but deficient in omega-3 fatty acids.
